Buah Hawa

I went to see Dr. Aziz at Gleneagles to ask him of alternatives instead of a laproscopy. He suggested to do an X-ray. They will inject a die into my uterus and the die will show in the X-ray mapping out the uterus and fallopian tubes. This way, they can see if there are any blockages. I thought, since it is not as invasive as the laproscopy, I’d give it a shot. The clinic contacted the radiology department for me, and apparently they could only do the X-ray on day 9 of my cycle. At that time, I was already day 11. So I had to wait till next month.

The Chinese meds so far is great. I have no side effects whatsoever. I’m just wondering if it works. I’ve been charting my body temperature every morning and built a really cool chart J Today is day 16 on my cycle and the temperature took a dip. When a dip occurs, it means that I will be ovulating soon! I am going to use the ovulating test kit to double check that. Hopefully I see some results!

Yesterday, a colleague at the office gave me some buah hawa from Mecca. Apparently, it is very sought after for fertility. He had a whole lot lying around at home, which he has no use for, so he gave some to me. Isn’t that sweet! Its like a rezeki that just fell on my lap. I got to figure out how you eat it though. I don’t even know how to open it

Anybody have any ideas?

The Chinese Medicine Man

I scheduled my laproscopy for this Thursday, day 11 of my cycle. I was so nervous! I had lots of kind words of encouragement and support from my friends as well as bloggers. Thank you all so much for being there. Although I may not know some of you in person, it is so great to know that somebody understands what I am going through. God bless.

Last week I had lunch with an old friend. She recommends me to see this Chinese physician who sells herbs for all sorts of ailments. He is also able to treat infertility. She had recommended her friends there, whom had some sort of fertility problems, and they all conceived within 3 months! So I went to see him.

He is a young fellow, who has a little shop at Carrefour Subang Jaya. I just told him that I had problems conceiving. Then he asked if I had seen the doctor, I said yes, and told him about the whole problem with ovulating. After that he examined me. All he did was read my pulse. He said that I had low blood pressure, weak ovaries and when I have my period, I don’t completely clear off all the menstrual blood. He says that it affects the ability for the egg to plant into the uterus lining. Also, due to my weak ovaries, I may have problems ovulating. Also, my hormones are not balanced.

It made a lot of sense. He told me that the herbal medicines that he prescribes are all natural. It will naturally balance my hormones and normalize my blood pressure. From reading my pulse, he was also able to tell that I have no blockages or fibroids. He explained that many of the people who come to see him for meds have similar problems to me. It’s a very simple problem, just requires balancing the hormones. Many of his patients, after taking his meds, conceived between 1 – 3 months after many years of trying.

I thought, I give it a shot. After all, his testimonials are great, which includes the success stories of my friends. The meds are also herbal and there is no risk of side effects. Great alternative to Clomid!!

So we decided to go for it. His meds (also been previously warned by my friend) is VERY expensive. But it works. Mine came up to about RM550.

Besides taking the meds, he also told me to track my basal body temperature. He wants to see the temperature trend as well as at what temperature my body is operating at. From that he is able to adjust my meds accordingly.

With that, I am post poning my laproscopy and see if this works. I am feeling a little bit more positive now and have more hope.

I really hope it works!

Staying calm

I am trying hard not to panic. The unknown is making me nervous. The thing is, we don’t really know for sure yet what is affecting my infertility. We’ve decided to do the laproscopy in my next period cycle. It feels like light years away.

I was browsing through the bookshop today at the “new arrivals” section. Ocassionally, I like reading chic lits. Its light and refreshing to read, compared to serious business journals. Funny thing, there were so many chic lits on pregnancy and babies! Chic lits usually has stories on dating and on life before marriage. The whole baby thing just blew me away. I considered purchasing a copy. I could not bring myself to. I was afraid that I would be too depressed.

Meanwhile, I am trying to stay positive, healthy and remember to take my vitamins. I am also trying to be happy and make the most of my time without a child. I’ve exhausted myself with reading all I can about infertility. I don’t think I can read anymore.

Holiday in Bandung

Yup yup.... I will be off again for a holiday! We managed to get those free Air Asia tix and we thought, Bandung might be a good idea.

Apparently, it is great for shopping and golf! So, keeping an open mind we hope (I am sure!) that it would be fun.

We leave this Sunday!

Second opinion

After 2 cycles of clomid, we’ve decided not to continue. I can’t take the side effects. The depression and mood swings are too much for me to bear.

I’ve decided to get a second opinion at Gleneagles. Dr. Aziz is apparently very good. I had my first appointment yesterday and he was very thorough and asked me a lot of questions. He suggests that I do a laproscopy. The laproscopy has to be done between day 10 and ovulation time. So that would mean that I have to decide to go ahead with it, it would be within the next few days or wait til next month.

I think I will do it next month, so I am more mentally prepared. Since the incision is on my tummy, I would probably have to refrain from exercise for a while, including golf. We’ve book a golfing holiday to Bandung on the 10th of June. So if I did the surgery tomorrow, then that would have gone to waste.

Meanwhile, I have to really work on stop smoking.

I don’t have anything to loose do I.

On clomid

I’m in my second month of treatment. The clomid is making me severely depressed. It is affecting my work and concentration. Everything is catastrophic to me. Its really not helping that my work and company is in turmoil at the moment. I feel very demotivated and lost.

However, the meds has been working. The first month, I produced one egg. The second month I produced two! Am at the dreaded 2 week wait (waiting time to see if I am pregnant) and I am hoping for the best. I told the doctor about the side effects and he said that it is not a common side effect. I did some reading on the internet and apparently some people do get depression from the meds. The doctor recommends that if I don’t get pregnant this cycle, he suggests that we do a laproscopy. It involves a minor surgery and half a day of admission. He also said that if we don’t want to do one yet, we can always try for another month. I think I am opting to try for another month, but am not sure if I can cope with the depression for another month! Cost is also a factor. I wonder how much the laproscopy is going to cost! Our insurance does not cover fertility treatments.

Hoping for the best in the coming 2 weeks.

Seeing the doctor

Its been more than a year since we’ve started trying for a baby. Still no luck. We’ve decided to see a doctor to find out if anything is wrong.

To cut long stories short, we found that I have not been ovulating from a blood test. I have been getting my periods regularly, but as my doctor explained, that does not mean that I have ovulated. He also did a scan on my ovaries. At the time of my visit, I was at my 14th day of my cycle. My follicles were not at its optimum size to produce an egg. It was only 10mm then. It has to be at least 20mm for ovulation to happen.

The Dr. prescribed Clomid to induce ovulation. Since then, I’ve been reading lots of its success rates and side effects. I’m suppose to take it from the 2nd day of my period for 5 days and make an appointment to see the doctor on the 10th and 12th day of my cycle. He needs to monitor if I am ovulating and how many eggs I will produce. Producing 3 – 4 eggs is deemed normal but 6 – 8 eggs is abnormal. This may result in poor egg quality.

So till my period comes, which me luck. Am staying strong.
